Let Your Light Shine

The fall season is my absolute favourite. I am a jeans and sweater girl and while I don’t get the pumpkin spice hoopla, I appreciate the way it has become the unofficial welcome mat for this time of year.

The one downside to fall is the reduction of daylight hours. If you live in Saskatchewan, I envy you. You don’t change your clocks because it is logical to NOT CHANGE them. However, I’m one province over and we deal with the annoying but helpful adage of ‘Falling Back’. The evening puppy walks are now covered in darkness and thus, I need light. This light is crucial to avoid exposed roots, fast critters and the before mention pup who sometimes stops. Right. In. Front. Of. Your. Moving. Feet.

You know what else the light brings? Bugs. They are drawn to this beam and they kind of wreck the light that’s supposed to guide my way. There are so many life lessons in this, but I’m going to focus on one.

Be the light

You, my friend, are a light in your church and in your neighbourhood. How we react to changing protocols, how we demonstrate Christ’s love to those we do not agree with, and how we continue to teach little ones about Jesus’ infinite love is the light Jesus calls us to be. Matthew 5:16 states, “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

That light though… it can attract bugs. The negativity, the tiredness, the frustration… those are all ways the devil wants to wreck the light we are called to be. It is inevitable that our ‘light’ will be challenged. Because that’s what the devil does. And yet, our God is FAR GREATER and gives us what we need.

God is greater

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).

Turn to Him. He gives us everything we need, including the ability to tune out the devil and turn up God’s power. He truly does have the whole world in His hands, and that includes you and me. What a blessing that is!

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).
